Miftakhetdin Akmulla was born on the 14th (27th) of December in 1831 in Tuksanbaevo village of the Belebeyevsky county (now Miyakinsky region of the Republic of Bashkortostan).
His father, Kamaletdin Iskuzhin (was born in 1805), was a mentioned (ukaznoy) imam; his mother, Bibiummugulsum Salimyanova (was born in 1809).
The future poet got elementary education in his native village and then he studied in Madrasah of nearby Meneuztamak and Anyasovo villages. Later he became the shakird in the Madrasah of Sterlibashevo village, where he got classes from Shamsetdin Zaki, the famous poet-sufiya. Akmulla who was witty, rectilinear, with rebellious character could not find a common language with his father. In 1859 he left his home and moved to the southern parishes (volosts) of Bashkortostan such as Sterlibashevo, Troitsk and steppes of  Kazakhstan. Later M.Akmulla lived and worked in different places: he taught children, did different handicrafts, for example, he worked as a carpenter, also he became famous as a talented poet-improvisator.
Miftakhetdin Akmulla is the greatest representative of  Bashkir poetry of the XIX centure.
M. Akmulla was condemned on the accusation of Kazakh bai Batucha Isyangildin and he was convicted of evading service in the imperial army. He was put into the Troitsk prison for four years (1867-1871). M. Akmulla created a lot of well-known works there in prison: “My place is in the zindan” and others.
He was killed on his way from Troitsk to Zlatoust not far from the Miass plant near the Syrostan railway station at night of the 14th (27th)of December in 1895. M. Akmulla was buried in a Muslim cemetery of Miass.
